For adjustment locations that are loosened and reset, 1/4-28 x 3/8 uses a brass tip so the replaceable face takes the contact instead of the mating surface.
Typical uses include polished shaft collars, small hubs, and replacement collars on finished round stock. The soft tip concentrates contact at the end of the screw while avoiding the harsher bite of an untreated alloy point. Brass gives a firmer metallic contact face when that contact style is preferred over nylon.
Cold Headers' tipped-screw program is built for buyers who need the right contact face without losing the reviewed thread and length. The 18-8 stainless tipped-screw family is the adjacent choice for ordinary moisture exposure while this alloy version serves dry-service work.
