8-32 x 1/8 combines an alloy steel socket set screw body with a brass tip for applications where the contact surface matters as much as the thread and length.
Typical uses include maintenance repairs, retrofit stops, and machine rebuilds where matching the original tip material matters. That makes it useful when the set screw must bear on a finished or plated part and later be adjusted again. Brass gives a firmer metallic contact face when that contact style is preferred over nylon.
Cold Headers installs nylon and brass tips at its Chicago facility for set screws and cap screws when a tipped configuration is required. A nylon insert acts on the thread; a nylon or brass tip acts on the mating surface, so the two product families should not be substituted blindly.
