Typical uses include spline shafts, keyed shafts, and hub locations where the mating surface should not be chewed by a bare point. Nylon and brass tips serve different jobs: nylon gives the softer touch, while brass provides a firmer metallic face. Brass gives a firmer metallic contact face when that contact style is preferred over nylon.
