Typical uses include anodized frames, plated components, and other assemblies where a softer contact face is useful. The soft tip concentrates contact at the end of the screw while avoiding the harsher bite of an untreated alloy point. Brass gives a firmer metallic contact face when that contact style is preferred over nylon.
