For adjustment locations that are loosened and reset, 4-40 x 1/8 uses a brass tip so the replaceable face takes the contact instead of the mating surface.
Typical uses include polished shaft collars, small hubs, and replacement collars on finished round stock. The alloy body is the dry-service workhorse choice when the bill of material calls for an alloy socket set screw with a soft face. Brass gives a firmer metallic contact face when that contact style is preferred over nylon.
For uncommon lengths or fine-thread tipped screws, Cold Headers supports exact-size sourcing without changing the specified tip material. Because the tip is the contact element, the mating material and acceptable witness mark should guide final selection.
