1/4-20 x 1/2 Cone Point Alloy Steel Socket Set Screw with Nylon Insert gives engineers a cone point for mechanical interlock and a nylon insert for resistance in the mating thread. A spotted shaft gives the point a defined pocket, so the set screw can locate more positively during installation. Use this alloy steel body with the nylon locking pellet where the drawing calls for a mechanical set screw, not a corrosion-focused stainless part.

Replacement assemblies with dimpled shafts can keep the original point style while adding a nylon insert for thread friction. Plain alloy steel is not selected for corrosion resistance, so keep parts oiled or choose a stainless request when the environment requires it.

Since 1962, the Cold Headers catalog has focused on socket products that are easy to misidentify without careful size language. Review thread size, length, hex key size, point style, and mating-surface marking tolerance before replacing it with another set screw.
