3/8-24 x 1 1/4 is a soft-tip alloy steel socket set screw for layouts where the exact thread, length, and tip material all need to match the service record.
Typical uses include packaging changeover points, adjustable guide rails, and repeatable machine settings. That makes it useful when the set screw must bear on a finished or plated part and later be adjusted again. Brass gives a firmer metallic contact face when that contact style is preferred over nylon.
Cold Headers installs nylon and brass tips at its Chicago facility for set screws and cap screws when a tipped configuration is required. The soft tip concentrates contact at the end of the screw while avoiding the harsher bite of an untreated alloy point.
