Oval point geometry favors adjustable contact and re-seating rather than maximum bite into the mating part. Specify the heat-treated alloy steel body with nylon pellet when the print calls for mechanical set screw hardware, not a stainless substitute.

Knobs and handles on control shafts may use an oval point when the screw approaches a curved or grooved surface.

The 5/8-18 rows are also fine-thread-only here, an uncommon locking oval point configuration.
